- Celebrate and promote student participation in community activities and sports such as skating, skiing, swimming, soccer, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, ultimate or curling.
- Try something new by visiting community facilities such as skating and curling rinks, pools, skateboard parks and climbing walls; and natural environments such as parks and mountains for cycling, disc golf, hiking, skiing, orienteering and beach volleyball.
- Organize nutrition education workshops or student/parent cooking classes with physical activity breaks.
- Invite recreation practitioners, provincial sport organizations, or community clubs to share a sport, a sport for the disabled, or physical activity with your class or school.
- Promote events such as community walks, free skate days, polar bear swims, and bike rodeos; mini-games theme for a school-based event; fundraise to prevent chronic disease, such as cancer or heart disease.
Top Five Healthy Eating Action Ideas!
- Invite physicians, nutrionists, or public health nurses to share their experiences and healthy eating messages.
- Organize and invite families to a school-wide healthy eating event (e.g. cultural potluck).
- Organize field trips to produce farms, green houses or supermarkets.
- Invite families to contribute a favourite healthy recipe to a school cookbook (can be used as a fundraising item).
