Top Five Physical Activity Action Ideas!  

  1. Adapt the school day to include a whole school fitness break (e.g. Walking Wednesdays).
     
  2. Include sport and physical activity demonstrations by teams, clubs or classes at monthly school assemblies (e.g. dances, cultural games, skipping).
     
  3. Celebrate activity living with whole-school walks, runs, or events (e.g. Fitness Fridays, Terry Fox Run, International Walk to School Month, International Move for Health Day, sports days, bike rodeos, mini-Olympics). 
      
  4. Incorporate physical activities and games that celebrate cultural uniqueness within the community (e.g. community dances, multicultural games). 
     
  5. Encourage the whole school to participate in the Action Schools! BC Sneaker Club and decorate the school with physical activity sneakers.
Top Five Healthy Eating Action Ideas!
  1. Provide nutritious food and beverage choices at sports days or physical activity events. 
     
  2. Implement healthy eating at whole school events (e.g. nutrition mini-Olympics alongside an active mini-Olympics Day).
     
  3. Coordinate school-wide healthy eating challenges (e.g. Vegetable and Fruit Sticker Competition, Healthy T Days).
     
  4. Plan a cultural potluck or food event that celebrates the cultural diversity of the community; or themed eating events for different cultural holidays (e.g. Thanksgiving, Chinese New Year, Cinco de Mayo, First Nations).

  5. Collect healthy snack ideas and recipes from students, staff and families to create a school cookbook and sell as a fundraiser.
