Who is this site for?

Action Schools! BC has been developed for educators, schools, and others in the province of BC who are interested in creating healthy school communities where students learn how to stay healthy. The site’s main focus is supporting educators and schools using a comprehensive school health approach to work on physical activity and healthy eating. Parents, community organizations and those working in health sector will also find helpful resources.

Can students join this site?

No. As the site collects personal information during the registration process, students are not permitted to become a member of Action Schools! BC website unless they are over the age of 19 years.

What is the purpose of this site?

The purpose of this site is to support and promote the Action Schools! BC program. The site includes program information and contacts, and acts as “one-stop" access point for Action Schools! BC activities, instructional examples and other resources that support educators and schools in making schools healthy, active places where student learn and thrive.

The Action Schools! BC Program

What is Action Schools! BC?

Action Schools! BC is a provincial program for BC elementary schools. It is focused on physical activity and healthy eating and has connections to mental well-being and other health topics and essential skills. It promotes using a comprehensive school health (CSH) approach to help create healthy school communities, where children and youth learn to be healthy.

Does Action Schools! BC align with the new BC education curriculum?

Yes, the program was updated in 2016 and is strongly aligned with the new BC curriculum approaches, competencies, content and content.

What does the program cost?

The program is free to all BC elementary (K-7) schools.

Who can participate?

Anyone over the age of 19 can register for the site, use and download program resources.

BC elementary school teachers/staff can register for free Action Schools! BC workshops.

In addition, schools that complete an action plan, with the help of their Regional Development Coordinator are eligible to receive additional program resources such as:

  • on-going support from a regional development coordinator;
  • hands-on multi-session mentoring of teachers in physical activity and/or healthy eating; and
  • customized equipment;



Who maintains this site?

Action Schools! BC is a partnership between DASH BC (DASH), and Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE), and with support from the Province of BC.

Is there a cost involved?

No! Registering for the site and participating in the program is completely free!
